Modelling a Paintball Player part4.

The paintball player will need a gun in order to shoot targets. I decided that the best way to approach this was to repeat the method used to create the mask..

First a suitable reference image was located which displays a good side view of a paintball gun, this image needed to be edited using photoshop as the axis was incorrect. Following this, I created a simple plane in 3ds max and used the material editor to assign the image as a material.

The image is then used to draw polygons using the Line tool to create an outline of the intended shape. The polygons are seperate shapes before attaching and converting them into an editable poly, therefore the vertices must be welded together using the target-weld or standard weld tools.

HOT TIP - setting the reference image as transparent in the object properties dialog allows you to see where important sections and dividing lines are positioned. This can be turned on by right-clicking on the image > object properties > select see-through.

The model border is then used to extrude the polygons, creating the begining of the gun's 3d appearance..

After getting a good thickness to the model I added a symmetry modifier to complete the gun..
